2419 Cast copper alloy dagger guard.JPG |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete sheet copper alloy knife handle fragment, dating to the Medieval period between AD 1066 – 1500 (length: 28.5mm; width: 12mm; thickness: 1mm; weight: 1.48g).
This knife handle fragment is a flat sub oval plate that appears at one end of a knife handle. The plate is slightly broken at one end and has a sub rectangular central hole (length of hole: 6mm; width of hole: 2.5mm) through which the tang of the knife would have originally been placed. The plate has been bent along the length forming a ‘U’ shape in side section. The knife handle fragment is undecorated which is worn and corroded (along the edges) with a light green powdery patina. |
