After lengthy delays, the central section of London's Crossrail route was opened to the public on 24 May 2022. Running from here, Abbey Wood through to Paddington (low level) with interchanges at all stations to London Underground, DLR and National Rail. Abbey Wood provides connections with Southeastern and Thameslink with two purpose built platforms for Crossrail trains. At the time of opening, the connection with both the eastern section (to Shenfield) and western (to Heathrow Airport and Reading) had yet to open, as were the platforms at Bond Street station. So until the connections are opened up (planned for later in 2022) passengers will need to change trains and levels at Liverpool Street and Paddington. Until the opening of the central section, the routes into Liverpool Street and Paddington were branded TfL Rail. Announced a couple of years before hand was to brand it Elizabeth Line which it officially from 24 May 2022. Operation of the line on behalf of Transport for London (TfL) is carried out by MTR Crossrail. Stock for the line is 90 Bombardier built class 345s "Aventra" which come in 7 and 9 car sets. At the time of opening, all trains running on the central section are 9 car sets with a commendable 5 minute frequency Monday to Saturday only.
