Description

Despite being the third largest town in Latvia, at the time of this visit, Liepāja has the honour of just one train there and back per weekend. The line still has a reasonable amount of freight traffic being a seaport, however journey time is competitive with modern buses on the same route. Despite leaving on a Friday evening, the 3-car train was only around half full leaving Rīga.

Seen on arrival is DR1AM-291.6 leading having worked train 721, 18:25 Rīga Pasažieru to Liepāja on 24 May 2019. The 'back working' is a similar time on the Sunday evening.

I stayed the night in Liepāja around 1km from the station. Travel back to Rīga on the Saturday morning was by way of a bus.
