Description

Netherlands Railways (NS) Sprinter EMU no. 2995 waits departure at Hoek van Holland Haven on 24 March 2017 with train 4133, 08:56 Hoek van Holland Haven to Rotterdam CS.

Taken one week before NS services ceased prior to a 7 month closure for the route to be converted over to an extension of the Rotterdam Metro system. During the closure, NS will provide a replacement bus service.

The station still plays an important connection with the twice per day Stena Line ferry service from Harwich. In fact in the background can be seen the "Stena Hollandica" which came in on the overnight sailing, 23:00 Harwich to Hoek van Holland.

Several years have elapsed since Hoek van Holland has seen long distance trains via Germany to destinations as far away as Moscow. Three disused platforms are still present and can be seen in front of the passenger footway to the ferry. How much of the station infrastructure will remain after metro conversion remains to be seen.
