Description
English: 24-4633 Piper J-3C-65 (L-4C) Cub c/n 11891. February 3 1944 this aircraft was accepted by the USAAC at Lockhaven. Delivered to Fort Sill, Oklahoma on February 14 1944. Delivered to the 394th Supply for shipping on March 2 1944. Shipped to PTO by Rufus Evans on March 13 1944. Accepted by the 33rd Inf. Div. Finschaffen on July 30. 1944. Accepted by the 130th Inf. Div. Morotai on December 4 1944. Disposed on March 3 1946 at Tacloban AFB, Philippines. With the registration VH-LIV it was completely rebuilt in 1989. The aircraft is painted in authentic 4th Squadron RAAF colours as used in New Guinea 1943/44 period. 4th Squadron RAAF had four 'Grasshoppers' which were loaned to the RAAF from the USAAC to supplement their Wirraways and Boomerangs in the Army cooperation role. These cubs did a tremendous service, landing on tracks and beach sand to deliver messages and personnel, transport wounded, and control the artillery on to enemy positions.
