Summary

[edit]
Description 231-235 East 17th Street between Second and Third Avenues in the Stuyvesant Square neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City was built in two sections in the Victorian Gothic style. The eastern part (right) was built in 1877 as the St. John the Baptist House, and was designed by E. T. Littell. The western part (left) was a dwelling owned by the St. John the Baptist Foundation. It was built in 1883, designed by Charles C. Haight, who was trained in Littell's office. The building was subsquently occupied by the Friendly League for Christian Service, the Salvation Army, and the New York location of the Hazelden Clinic, a rehab facility. In 2005 it was sold for conversion into condominiums. The building is located within the Stuyvesant Square Historic District.
