| Description |
A visit to some of the branches to the west of Glasgow was made on 23 October 2012. Two of the three on the days itinerary had been visited just the once, back in 1983. Seen here is Weymss Bay is Siemens built class 380/1 EMU, 380.108 prior to its next working, 1W22, 15:55 Wemyss Bay to Glasgow Central. The station is combined with the ferry terminal for Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) ferries to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. Opened in 1865, the listed building still features its glass roof and clock tower seen in the background. The line from (along with nearby branch to Gourock) was electrified in 1967 as part of the second Glasgow electrification. Originally four platforms, this has since been reduced to two functioning ones. As seen here one has been filled in with ballast (and de-wired) with the platform 4 (to the left) closed off earlier. |
