Title
2247F2. Shale core from armlet manufacture.
Description
English: Circular shale core from the manufacture of armlets. On one face is a square, off-centre recess with a slight bevel and on the other is a conical indentation (type B2 (J.B. Calkin, 1953, "Kimmeridge Coal Money" - The Romano-British Shale Armlet Industry, Proceedings of the Dorset Natural History & Archaeological Society, Volume 75, pages45 - 67)). These result from the shale blank being held in place on a lathe by a chuck. Hole dimensions are 8.82 mm x 9.69 mm.
