Title |
2176 Medieval Buckle plate.jpg |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy buckle plate length 31mm, width 17mm, thickness 1.5mm weight 3.57g. Rectangular plate with a stamped picture in the centre, possibly similar to the example found in London (Egan and Pritchard, 2002, 112) that depicts a loin passant which was dated to the 13th century. Two rivet holes at the reverse, one is broken, the other still retains a copper alloy rivet, slot in the forward edge for the buckle pin, this area would have wrapped around the buckle frame but is now broken. The reverse is plain. The artefact is in poor condition, with corrosion obscuring much of the detail.
This artefacts probably dates to the 13th century. G.Egan and F.Pritchard, 2002, Dress Accessories: Medieval finds from the Museum of London, The Stationery Office |
