[edit]Description2023-11 Medeltidsmuseet Calvary stone Gallows Hill City wall 03.jpg |
English: Locationː The Museum of Medieval Stockholm, under the Norrbro ("North Bridge") on Helgeandsholmen. On the left the Calvary Stone of limestone, raised in 1511 together with two similar stones on Pelarberget or Pelarbacken in the Södermalm district of Stockholm. The stones marked the final station of a processional way imitating the route taken by the suffering Christ to Golgotha. The route led from Stortorget in the Old Town to the place of execution and the Chapel of the Holy Cross, near the present day Katarina kyrka - St. Katherine's Church. The strongly weathered relief on the rock shows the crucified Christ, with Mary on the left and John on the right. Sourceː information board at the museum.
In the background the Gallows Hill, in the middle a part of the King Gustav Vasa's town wall built around 1530, forming the backbone of the museum.
