| Description |
English: The Halltown Union Colored Sunday School, also known as the Halltown Memorial Chapel, located on Halltown Road near the intersection with Tabb Lane in the unincorporated community of Halltown, West Virginia, was built in 1901 in the Gothic Revival style for the local African-American community. The land was donated by Daniel B. Lucas from his Rion Hill estate. The non-demominational sunday school operated until 1967, although it continued to be used for weddings and funerals after that. The building sits to the right and in front of the Halltown Colored Free School, built in 1870, and both are owned by the same community organization, which was formed in 1982 to restore the building. The restoration of the sunday school took place in 1983, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. {Description source: [1]) |
