Agatha of Catania - tortured by cutting off her breasts

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The pictured statue is one of six female figures of saints in a chapel in the Convento de San Francisco in Quito, Ecuador. The breasts lying on a bowl suggest Agatha of Catania. She had - according to the legend - refused the courtship of the city governor and was therefore sadistically tortured to death, among other things by tearing and cutting off her breasts.
