Description
English: The Friendship Firehouse, located at 107 South Alfred Street at the corner of Downham Way in the Old Town district of Alexandria, Virginia, was built in 1855 to house the Friendship Fire Company, which had been established in 1774 as the first fire company in Alexandria. The buildings was substantially remodeled in 1871. The volunteer company was active until the late 1870s. In the early 20th century, the members of the company formed the Friendship Veterans Fire Engine Association as a public service organization. The firehouse re-opened as a museum in 1003 after being restored. (Description source: [Informational sign on site])
