Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Cottonwood Community Club House, located at 805 North Main Street in the Old Town district of Cottonwood, Arizona, was built in 1939 and wqs designed by Leslie J. Mahoney of the firm of Lescher and Mahoney of Phoenix, in some part inspired by the nearby newly excavated Tuzigoot ruins, which could be seen from the site. The materials used were local, and included rocks from the Verde River which has been shaped over time by the passage of water. Funds for its construction came partially from the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and the Cottonwood Civic Club as well as from donations by local businesses, bake sales and other fundraising efforts.

The club house has been used for theatrical performances, scholarship fundraisers, public meetings, talent shows, and other community-wide events. During World War II, the building was leased to the U.S. Navy for use as a barracks for the Naval Air Cadet Flight Training Program at Clemenceau Airport.

The Club House is part of the Cottonwood Commercial Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 2000, where it is referred to as the "Cottonwood Community Civic Club".
