NOTE: This image is a focus stacked image of "Peacock butterfly (Aglais io) - eyespot on forewing - colourful scales" consisting of 51 images that were merged using Zerene Stacker Version 1.04 Build T2022-04-21-0715 (licensed). As a result, this image underwent digital manipulation which may have included blending, blurring, cloning, and colour and perspective adjustments. As a result of these adjustments, the image content may be slightly different than reality at the points where the images were combined. This manipulation is often required due to lens, perspective, and parallax distortions.

  • Focus stack derived from a total of 51 images, the lens being attached to a "Novoflex Castel-Micro" focusing rack and automatic stepper, advancing 0.06 mm between images.
  • Image series taken in Aplerbeck, Dortmund, Germany in August 2021.
    Had found this detached butterfly wing in our own garden.

  • [4] Camera / lens settings: manual mode, electronic shutter, ISO 100, 1/40s, aperture 4.0, bias (=exposure compensation) 0, WB (white balance) set to 5600K, BrightnessValue 3.83359375, colour space 'Adobe RGB'.
  • [5] FOCUS STACK recording: camera attached to focusing rack / automatic stepper Novoflex Castel-Micro, step set to 0.0600 mm, resulting step 0.0599 mm, total distance covered 3.00 mm (from nearmost focus to the most distant focus spot), delay between images 7 sec., duration 17 min., took 51 images, both as JPG and 16-bit 'Adobe RGB' RAW (.ARW) files.
