Summary

[edit]
Description

Although Bear Basin, located on the McCall Ranger District, is a popular recreation area today, it has historically been a place for sheep grazing and trailing since before the Payette National Forest was established. When these photos were taken, 2,000 ewes and lambs arrived Bear Basin and surrounding areas, using those historic sheep trails and continuing the tradition.

This photo shows the sheep being counted as they arrive in Bear Basin, July 12, 2020 (Forest Service photo by Cody Allred).
