[edit]Description20191130 Suriname 0216 Peperpot sRGB (49295383281).jpg |
A pregnant three-toed sloth slowly makes its way down a tree trunk. Peperpot Nature Park was formerly a plantation that began cultivating cocoa in 1702 and then coffee around 1720. The Peperpot name is believed to come from the Amerindian word ‘peprewatra,’ a soup with fish and vegetables seasoned with pepper that slaves would eat communally at the end of a hard day in the field.
