Den 31 maj 2019 invigdes Danmarks första höghastighetsjärnväg - Ringstedbanen - 60 kilometer järnväg från Köpenhamn via Køge till Ringsted med en högsta möjlig hastighet på 250 km/h. Bild från nya stationen Køge Nord. Järnvägen knyter såväl an till Stora Bältbron som till den kommande tunneln under Fehmarn Bält med tågtrafik till Hamburg. Ringstedbanen har kostat 10 miljarder danska kronor och byggdes mellan 2010 och 2019. Ringstedbanen invigdes av kronprins Frederik av Danmark. Järnvägstrafiken startade dagen efter invigningen och till en början med ett tåg per timme i 120 km/h för att i juli öka farten till 180 km/h. Det tar några år innan höghastighetsbanans högsta hastighet på 250 km/h kan nås - först ska nya signalsystem bli klara och nya snabbare tåg köpas in av DSB.
