Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Maclaurin Buildings, also known as MIT Building 10 and its wings, MIT Building 3 (west wing) and MIT Building 4 (east wing), form a large U-shaped structure enclosing the northern-most section of Killian Court. Building 10, the central building, is topped by the Great Dome. The buildings and the dome were built in 1913 to 1916 and were designed by William Welles Bosworth in the Neo-classical style. The Dome was modeled after McKim, Mead & White's Low Memorial Library at Columbia University, which is in turn an imitation of the Pantheon in Rome. Although architecturally it was intended to be a primary entrance to the school's buildings, in fact the primary entrance is in the Rogers Building (MIT Building 7) on Massachusetts Avenue, which itself has a similar, if smaller, dome.
