Description
English: The directing letter for french envoy (02/06/1909) - Wall Poster - SaPa Museum: In the winter of 1903-1904, officers (including Lieutenant Poinat) from the Department of Geographic Indichina took a field trip to Lao Cai to mapping ration: 1/100.000, this work lasted until 1905 with the marked geodetic under the order of the naval officer - Mr Scherdlin. the firts information on the geography, climate and flora had been collected and SaPa had since then gradually appeared. At the beginning period, only European soldiers and people of Lao Cai who went to Binh Lu and Phong Tho knew SaPa when they crossed O Qui Ho mountain pass, "the cottages were built and families were used to go by horse to rest in this plateau". Tourres - French Resident envoy in Lao Cai was the first to beleive in the possibility of SaPa to become a major resort station. His first act was to promote this region to the Tonkin Resident envoy to initiate the desire to send the first settler to live in SaPa: Mr. Mievlle, also in 1909, Tourres called for an advertiser, Mr. Hautefeuille who was responsible to attract the Press's attention to SaPa. To develop SaPa, Tourres placed SaPa in the overall programs of Indochina tourism development.
