Title
2017-T477 : Finger Ring : Roman
Description
English: A complete silver finger-ring of Roman date (AD 43-250). The object is of Henig's Type III / Guiraud type 2d-2e, with plain oval hoop, D-shaped in section, broad shoulders and flat, widened bezel. Rings of this type are dated from the 1st to the early third century.

The bezel is set with a blue intaglio with darker surround, probably glass imitating nicolo, with an engraved female figure standing, facing left (as seen) holding a ?dish in her extended right hand and an uncertain object in her left hand. There is an uncertain object in the field before her. The intaglio is heavily abraded and the image is therefore not fully legible but may depict Ceres (cf Henig 2007, nos. 259-273).
