Tuber uncinatum Chatin Image location: Tres Aguas, Refugio Forestal, Fresneda de la Sierra Tiron, Spain Christine Fischer, truffle researcher at the Forest Science Center of Catalonia, Spain, leads truffle and mushroom forays in Spain. These truffles were found using trained dogs. Christine identified the truffles and took the photos labeled T uncinatum (posted with her permission) in her laboratory. Recognized by sight: Fruit bodies are firm & dark brown to black with deeply pyramidal-shaped warty surface. Ripening in early to late autumn, growing with deciduous trees with wide range of habitats throughout Europe, collected at up to 1600m asl .
