[edit]Description2016-04-10 Lichenostigma saxicola K. Knudsen & Kocourk 630397.jpg |
Lichenostigma saxicola K. Knudsen & Kocourk. Image location: Atascadero, California, USA Parasitic lichenicolous fungi on Caloplaca subsoluta (observation 242919), also occurring directly on the sandstone rock. The fungi occurs as tiny black dots superficial on the lichen host or adjacent rock. In section, it looks like an amorphous blob of cells at 400x, but at 1000x you can see what I think are brown 1-septate spores. I don’t know much about this one yet, but see observation 91142 for more info from Jason Hollinger. This species was described in 2010 by Knudsen, not long ago! Based on microscopic features: 1-septate brown spores
