| Description | The <a href="http://www.lucernevalley.net/history/blackhawk.htm" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Blackhawk Slide</a>: a mammoth landslide — a billion cubic feet of crushed rock — that came off of Blackhawk Mountain, on the north side of the San Bernardino Mountains, around 17,000 years ago — a few minutes ago in geologic time. It is spread across the land east of Lucerne Valley in Southern California, and shot on approach to LAX on a flight from Newark. Interesting fact: to move to the position the slide landed, it needed to get airborne, and travel on a cushion of air at same speed my plane was approaching the airport.
