Summary
[edit]Description2015-05-10 Upnor Castle — Coat Hook.jpg |
English: Upnor Castle - An Elizabethan (1559) artillery fort on the River Medway, once protecting Britain's naval shipyard at Chatham. Infamous for letting a Dutch raiding party sail past unnoticed in 1667 when they destroyed large numbers of British warships. The castle was the focus for defensive efforts on the Medway for centuries, and the last of the military lands have nearly all been sold off.
A 2015 visit with what turned out to be a terrible Tamron 18-270mm zoom lens, and almost all my photographs were soft. That has resulted in what I consider a nice collection of feature shots of the castle, highlighting a selection of the unique architectural artefacts that remain. The castle is an English Heritage property and open between April and October. |
