Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress '124485 'DF-A' (G-BEDF) 'Sally B'

Built as B-17G-105-VE c/n 8693, bomber and attack aircraft, it was constructed by the Lockheed-Vega plant at Burbank, California, USA. It was accepted by the United States Army Air Force (USAAF) as 44-85784 on June 19 1945 but didn’t see war(WWII) service.

The B-17 was critical to the USAAF daylight precision bombing campaign and was armed with 13 machine guns, hence the name "Flying Fortress". B-17 Flying Fortress G-BEDF Sally B is the last remaining airworthy B-17 bomber aircraft in Europe. She is permanently based at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, England, United Kingdom.
