Description

Russula laurocerasi Melzer

Image location: Borovoye National Park, Akmola District, Kazakhstan

Russula laurocerasi Melz. Russulaceae, Agaricales. (Валуй, Almond-scented Russula).

Сap: 5-16cm rounded as a square head, expanding to convex or flat and slightly sunken in the centre when old; margins curved in and radial lined when old, young is slimy, than some tacky in wet weather, glossy and shiny in dry season; color from yellowish-white or brownish-white up to yellowish-brown or brownish-yellow. Flesh is white up to light brown after some damage. Gills are attached, close and narrow when young than broad and almost distant; color from white up to dull yellowish-white and brown coarse damage. Young unit has weak white acrid milk at gills.

Stalk: 3-8cm long, white up to dull yellowish-white or dull brownish-white; 1.5-4cm thick, usually slightly enlarging down than narrowing at the base, loose or hollow in the central part.  

Habitat: scattered up to abundant or crowded in pine-tree forest minor under birches. Edibility: good for long winter keeping (special methods of cooking using fermentation). July – September.
