[edit]Description2014-07-04 Boletus roseipes 431975.jpg |
Boletus roseipes Image location: Seven Tubs Natural Area, Pennsylvania, USA Singular specimen in forest of hemlock, birch, and other hardwoods. B. miniato-olivaceus growing in the vicinity. So I did consider this possibly being a very faded example of mini-o (collected after a heavy rainfall). But, other than cap color, there are a few things that eliminate mini-o: strong bluing on pores and all cut context, KOH dull orange on cap surface (several examples of mini-o all turned olive with KOH on cap). Spores are similar to mini-o, with quotient averaging a bit larger for the mushroom featured in this obs. Second micro-photo shows what appear to be cystidia that match the roseipes description put forth in B/R/B… long, thin, a bit thicker in the mid-section. Upper stipe pale without observable reticulations. I have found solitary examples of this type at the same location in the past. B. inedulis and B. calopus are other names I have considered. Used references: B/R/B
