Title
2012T417 Silver Gilt Dress Pin Fragment
Description
English: Description: A post-medieval silver-gilt ball headed pin, dating to the 16th century AD. Only the lower hemisphere of the pin head remains with a small length of rod. The decoration on the lower hemisphere would have consisted of three filigree wire circles with a further four or five filigree wire circles within this and one central knop. As the lower hemisphere is damaged this decoration is now incomplete. A rod, circular in section, penetrates through the centre of the base of the lower hemisphere and into what would have been the hollow inside of the pin head had the upper hemisphere remained intact- however this is now missing. This rod has been soldered in place and the lower end has broken off, so only a small length of the rod/ pin remains.

Dimensions: Length: 18.4 mm, Width: 11.7 mm, Thickness: 2.1 mm, Weight: 1.61 g

Discussion: A similar example can be found from Grafton Regis, Northamptonshire (2012 T233; PAS ID, BUC-97FF54) and from Beeston with Bittering, Norfolk (2012 T66; PAS ID, NMS-020525).
