English: Description: Four silver groats of Henry VI and three silver pennies of Edwardian date, c.1282-1434 AD.


Groats:


1)Henry VI, first reign, Annulet coinage, c.1422-1429 AD. As North, 1975: no. 1424.

Obverse: +hENRIC'x DI'x GRA' REX x ANGLIE Z FRANC' (Cross II; Lombardic N's); Crowned bust facing within double-stranded multifoil, lis in the internal angles of the foil, annulets to either side of the neck, all within an inner circle.

Reverse: +POSVI o/DEVM (double saltire) A/DIVTOR/E' (double saltire) MEVM // VIL/LA (double saltire)/CALI/SIE (double saltire) (Cross II; Lombardic M's)

Mint: Calais

Diameter: 26.37mm; Weight: 3.46g.


2)Henry VI, first reign, Rosette-Mascle coinage, c.1427-1430 AD. As North, 1975: no. 1446.

Obverse: +hENRIC DI GRA' REX ANGL Z' FRANC' (Cross II; rosette stops, Lombardic N's); Crowned bust facing within double-stranded multifoil, lis in the internal angles of the foil, all within an inner circle.

Reverse: +POSVI (pinecone)/DEVM (double saltire) A/DIVTOR/E'x MEVM // VIL/(mascle) LA (double saltire)/CALI/SIE (rosette) (Cross V; Lombardic M's)

Mint: Calais

3)Henry VI, first reign, Pincone-Mascle coinage, c.1430-1434 AD. As North, 1975: no. 1461.

Obverse: +hENRIC DI GRA REX (mascle) ANGL Z FRANC' (Cross IIIa/b; Lombardic N's); Crowned bust facing within double-stranded multifoil, lis in the internal angles of the foil, all within an inner circle.

Reverse: +POSVI (pinecone)/DEVM (double saltire) A/DIVTOR/E (double saltire) MEVM // VIL/(mascle) LA (double saltire)/CALI/SIE (pinecone) (Cross V; Lombardic M's)

4)Henry VI, first reign, Pincone-Mascle coinage, c.1430-1434 AD. As North, 1975: no. 1461. Missing part of the flan due to old breaks.

Obverse: +hENRIC (pinecone) DI (pinecone) GRA (pinecone) REX (mascle) ANGL []NC' (Cross IIIa/b; Lombardic N's); Crowned bust facing within double-stranded multifoil, lis in the internal angles of the foil, all within an inner circle.

5)Edward I, Class 4C, c.1282-1289 AD.

Obverse: +EDWR'ANGL []NS hYB, Crowned bust facing within an inner circle, trifoliate crown with nick to left of band.

Reverse: CIVI/T[AS]/LON/DON, Long cross dividing the legend, three pellets in each angle of the cross, all within an inner circle.

Mint: London

Diameter: 18.49mm; Weight: 1.29g.


6)Edward II, Class 11 or 13, c.1310-1318 AD.

Obverse: +EDWAR ANGL DNS hYB, Crowned bust facing within an inner circle, uncertain bifoliate crown.

Reverse: CIVI/TAS/DVN/ELM, Long cross dividing the legend, three pellets in each angle of the cross, all within an inner circle. Crozier at start of legend.

Mint: Durham

Diameter: 17.33mm; Weight: 1.20g.


7)A contemporary continental sterling copy of John the Blind, dating to c.1309-1346 AD. As Mayhew no. 263.

Obverse: +EBWEM ET POLONIE REX, Crowned bust facing within an inner circle, bifoliate crown.

Reverse: IOh/NESD/EIG/RAC, Long cross dividing the legend, three pellets in each angle of the cross, all within an inner circle.

Mint: Luxemburg

Diameter: 18.16mm; Weight: 1.15g.

Dimensions: The coins have a combined total weight of 17.91g.
