Summary
[edit]Description2012-12-31 Botryobasidium longisporum G. LANGER 299724.jpg |
Botryobasidium longisporum G. LANGER Image location: Sky Trail, Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin Co., California, USA On pine log next to unidentified polypore. The whitish collection dried gray. I notice that the type and only collections are from Taiwan, but it keys right to it, and it fits the description very well. And is applying a European-based name really any different then applying one based on Asian material? In the end only sequence will sort them out, but it seems like a good morphological fit for now. B. danicum is described with longer spores, and B. sordidulum is described with spores with a pointy apex and the basidia should be shorter. I initially called this a Sistotrema, because the spores seems like a better fit to that genus, but the basidia really were not uriform, and the arachnoid fruiting body and size and shape of the hyphae are very typical of Botryobasidium. Spore Used references: On line key from http://www.uni-tuebingen.de/uni/bbm/mycology/botrkey.htm, and description From Langer’s dissertation Based on microscopic features: Lack of clamps, 6-8 spored basidia 21-22 X 8, large banana-shaped spores 8-12.4 X 4 Botryobasidium is on the right and below on wood and on bark
