Summary

[edit]
Description

Amanita beckeri Huijsman

Image location: Cordão dunar de São Pedro de Moel, Leiria, Portugal

Habitat: near a small river where there are a lot of different kind of trees, from (big and old) eucaliptus to pines, but also poplars and birches. Very humid place.

The color of the cap of Amanita beckeri is usually darker. I think that the light colors of the cap of these specimens may be due to the weather conditions, since the night before this morning observation rained continuously. These weather condition may also the explanation for the non-breaking of the volva, contrary to the common situation, in one of the young specimens: it seems that there are two caps one (the real cap) inside the other (volva).
