||
Description |
English: Treasure Case: 2011 T692 Tendring District, Essex: Post Medieval Dress Hook
Date of Discovery: 12th October2011 Circumstances of discovery: Whilst searching with a metal detector Date: Post Medieval - 16th Century Description: Complete silver-gilt early Post Medieval dress hook of Read Class D Type 1. The plate is rectangular with a border where seven semi-circular knops project, one in each angle and centrally around three sides. The upper surface has an impressed design, comprising a four-petal design with a central pellet. The projecting hook is soldered onto the reverse with a stamped eight pointed star. The front of the hook is partially covered by a moulded design of a fleur de lis or leaf extending from the main body. The hook is circular in cross section and tapers to the point of the hook. On the reverse, there is the rectangular bar attachment. A similar example can be found from Beeston with Bittering, Norfolk (2011 T91, PAS database ref. NMS-29AB21). The object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal and is over 300 years old. Consequently it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of both age and precious metal content.
