Description

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) videographer Bob Stobaugh captures the afternoon light and clouds over San Antonio Bay, from the shore of Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, in Austwell, TX, on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011.

  • The Aransas Refuge is a 15,000-acre wildlife sanctuary established in 1939. Its fresh water comes from the San Antonio River, which flows by the historic Alamo southeasterly towards the Guadalupe River at the estuary of San Antonio Bay, the primary body of water for the refuge.
  • Phragmites reed grass stabilizes the shore while live oak provides deep root stabilization and a windbreak from off shore winds.
