Description

Accession: 2011-210-1 Plaque, Memorial, USS MAINE 11.75"H X 17 5/8" W

Memorial plaque cast from metal salvaged from the USS MAINE ACR-1 which sunk in Havana harbor on the 15th February 1898. The plaque was cast in 1913 by John Williams Inc in New york and was designed by sculpter Charles Keck under the auspices of the Bureau of Engraving. This plaque serial # 1228 was not awarded to a city of orgnaization but is one of number of plaques held in storage by Naval History and Heritage Command.
