Summary

[edit]
Description

Oligoporus obductus (Berk.) Gilb. & Ryvarden

Image location: Samuel P. Taylor State Park, Marin Co., California, USA

These were growing on an old mossy stump in a mixed hardwood area.

They were somewhat petal-like with short flattened stems, each petal around 2-3 cm wide and stems around 2 cm.
They were tough-spongy and the caps were almost suede-like.
The pores were fairly small,~ 2-3 per mm.
The spore were white and small, ~4.0 X 2.0 microns and almost oblong but one end tapering.
I don’t believe the spores were amyloid but I could only test them with a Iodine-KI solution.
The cap surface hyphae seemed to have long hair-like strands(trichoderm?).
The taste seemed mild.
So far no luck in finding a match in the Tyromyces, Oligoprus or Spongiporus references that I’ve searched.
