Description
English: Late Bronze Age hoard comprising of four incomplete artefacts.

Date: late Bronze Age (1150-800 BC)

1) Damaged and incomplete blade fragment. The blade is broken at both ends, with damage along both edges. It has a shallow and elongated oval cross section. Length: 58.44mm. Maximum width: 24.84mm. Thickness: 4.92mm. Weight: 27.49 grams.

2) Damaged and incomplete socketed axehead. It has been broken across the body with the blade end surviving. The socket opening is rectangular, with the socket end visible. The cutting edge is damaged, appearing squared off, with no visible curvature except on the blade tips. There are casting seams visible on the side, which have been smoothed. Dark brown patina. Length: 48.37mm. Width 34.27mm (body) expanding to 41.64mm (blade). The socket opening at point of break is 25.69mm by 7.89mm. The depth of the socket from the break is 22.3mm. Weight: 92.41 grams.

3) Possible palstave fragment. The object is wedge shaped, being rectangular in plan and cross section. There are worn breaks at both ends, where the piece has been deliberately broken. The upper and lower surface are slightly concave. It has a dark brown patina. Length:36.86mm. Width: 26.16mm. Thickness: 17.86mm. Weight:

4) Casting waste / miscast object. The fragment is sub-triangular in plan, with part of a miscast socket visible on the longer edge. The surface is irregular and pitted. Patchy mid-brown patina. Length: 42.70mm. Width32.39mm. Thickness: 22.99mm. Weight 107.23 grams.

This assemblage of four base metal artefacts were found in relatively close proximity within a field. It is highly probably that they were deposited together in prehistory, but have subsequently been disturbed by agricultural activity. Consequently it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act (2003).
