2010 T493 Post-Medieval silver-gilt dress hook |
||
Description |
English: Silver Finder supplies SEM image and spectrographic identification, indicating the object is 91.18% silver by weight
Dress hook. Read Class D Type 3. Rhomboid plate with central rhomboid lozenge, surrounded by 12 pellets. The pellets are surrounded by cabled borders, and a similar border forms an edging to the plate. The piece is probably of composite construction. A complete hook and a rectangular loop are retained on the flat reverse. The decoration is cast and elaborated with wire, though the Treasure report (2003 T356) on a comparable piece from Warwickshire suggests that this may imitate granulated decoration (Read 2008, Hooked-Clasps & Eyes, page 66, no. 209). Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1600. This object has also been submitted as possible Treasure, reference 2010 T493. Length: 34mm, Width: 21.4mm, Thickness: 6mm, Weight: 6.2gms. |
