Summary
[edit]Description2010 Faroese Boat Race 8-mannafor.jpg |
English: Boat race (rowing) in Vágur, Suðuroy, Faroe Islands on 26 June 2010. The category is 8-mannafør, which is the second largest boat type. The other categories are 5-mannafør, 6-mannafør and 10-mannafør. 5-mannafør is the most popular category and is used for boys and girls (children), boys and girls (youth) and women (adults over 18), 6-mannafør are used for men and women (not mixed, except for the coxswain, who can be of the other gender). The largest boats 8-mannafør and 10-mannafør are only for men. This was the race for 8-mannafør, the winner was Kvívíkingur from Kvívík, number two was Argjabáturin from Argir, number three was Árnfirðingur from the small village Árnafjørður, number 4 was Fríggjarin from Miðvágur, number 5 was Ørvur from Havnar Róðrarfelag (Tórshavn) and number 6 was Knørrur from Róðrarfelagið Knørrur (Tórshavn). So the boats from the villages won over the boats from the capital in this event. Normally the 8-mannafor are rowing 1500 meter, but in Vágur and in some other fjords or bays they are only rowing 1000 meters.
