English: BURNHAM HOARD 2010 T509: Item D.4 Socketed Axe; South Eastern - Faceted (Petters class D)

Incomplete cast copper alloy socketed axe with trumpet (expanded) mouth. Wide upper mouth moulding, narrower lower moulding. Side loop extends from lower mouth moulding. Loop filled with corrosion. Edges flair out at the blade end. There is some damage to the cutting edge. Mouth is oval. Body has faceted sides and is hexagonal in cross section. Slight damage to cutting edge. Possible organic material in the socket.

Length: 92.43mm. Weight: 194.14 grams Socket opening: 21.53mm by 19.26mm. Mouth: 33.04mm by 30.09mm. 5.34mm thick. Loop: 16.85mm long, 7.28mm wide; located 12.95mm from mouth opening. Body: 29.52mm wide by 11.75mm thick. Cutting edge: 45.42mm
