Summary
[edit]Description2009 at Penryn station - building new platform (153369).jpg |
English: First Great Western 153369 entering Penryn rrailway station, Cornwall, United Kingdom on a train to Falmouth Docks. For many years the station had only one platform used by trains in both directions. In 2009 the platform was lengthened and a passing loop installed. Trains travelling towards Truro run through to the north end of the platform. While a train is stopped at this end, another train can pass through the loop to the south end where it stops on its way towards Falmouth, the terminus of the line. This gives a rare example of trains running on the right in the United Kingdom - it is normal for trains to run on the left in this country.Workmen on the paltform were finishing the new signalling which had only recently been instaleld, while others were completing work on the platform extensions neccessary for the revised arrangements. The train was formed of two Class 153 single power cars. |
