2009 T495 Thornbury silver bodkin (3).
Description
English: Silver dress pin length 61mm, width 6mm, thickness 3mm, weight 8.22g.

Quadrangular cross section pin that tapes towards a point, the other end has an ear scoop that has been engraved to resemble a spoon with a circular suspension hole at the base. Below this is a rectangular opening that is flanked by incised liner decoration at one end and grapes the other and below this is a series of incised geometric patterns that terminate in a point. This decoration is repeated on the reverse. Below the geometric decoration on the face is the makes mark GW and on the reverse is the owners initials ED.

This artefact dates to the 17th century, similar parallels have been recorded in the Treasure Annual Report 2005/6, 2006 T462 and 2006 T168 (DCMS, 2009, 135 &361, 362).
