Summary
[edit]Description20090413 Athus gare vue de la place.jpg |
English: The station of Athus, Belgium, as seen from the street. This station used to be a busy international station until the seventies, allowing the surrounding steel industry from France, Belgium and Luxemburg to send their products to customers all around europe. It was also a hub station for workers of those industries. During the '90s, the station was only reached by passenger trains from Luxembourg. Connexions in Belgium were replaced by bus. Since 2008, as the south of Belgium is increasingly becoming "sleeping suburbs" of Luxembourg City, a passenger train service is again organized between Arlon and Virton, through Athus adn Rodange (the later is the new hub with connexions to Longwy (In France), Arlon and Virton (In Belgium) and 2 lines to connect Luxemboug City (via Dippach or via Esch sur Alzette. |
