Deutsch: 14.03.2009 04107 Leipzig, Philipp-Rosenthal-Straße 51 A / Ecke Semmelweisstraße. Russisch-Orthodoxe Gedächtniskirche St. Alexej (GMP: 51.324179,12.396960). Die orthodoxe Kirchgemeinde zu Leipzig gibt es seit dem 18. Jahrhundert. Orthodoxe Christen aus Rußland und Griechenland bildeten 1745 in Leipzig eine kleine Glaubensgemeinschaft, die später langsam wuchs. Die Russische Gedächtniskirche (erbaut 1913) erinnert an die etwa 130.000 Russen, die in der Völkerschlacht von 1813 für die Befreiung Deutschlands kämpften. Zur Erinnerung an 22.000 russische Gefallene in der Schlacht bei Leipzig wurde am 18.10.1913 das Gotteshaus eingweiht. Als Vorbild diente dem Architekten Wladimir Alexandrowitsch Pokrowski (1871-1931) die Christi-Himmelfahrts-Kirche im Moskauer Stadtteil Kolomenskoje, eine von 1530-32 erbaute 16-seitige Zeltdachkirche.
