English: TREASURE CASE 2008 T621 Post Medieval silver thimble.

British Museum Report:

Silver thimble, regular indentations over the body and cartouche with scrolls, intended for owner's initials but here left blank. Small, possibly intended for a child. Comparisons with other thimbles recorded in the literature suggests a very late 17th or early 18th Century date, possibly post 1708. As such it is impossible to say with confidence that it qualifies as 'Treasure' according to the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

Additional information:

The inside of the thimble has a small makers mark towards its base, which appears to be an upside down 'B' within a square.

The thimble is 17.70mm tall, 16.69mm diameter across the base, the walls are 1.05mm thick and it weighs 6.42 grams.
