Description

Die Kirche wurde im 13. Jahrhundert das erste Mal urkundlich erwähnt. Durch den Einsturz des Turms im Jahre 1382 wurden auch der Chor und Teile des Langschiffs in Mitleidenschaft gezogen.

Der Grundstein zum mächtigen Westwerk der Kirche soll 1416 gelegt worden sein. Fertiggestellt war sie etwa im ausgehenden 15. Jahrhundert. Das Innere überrascht im Gegensatz zur Nikolaikirche durch das Fehlen zahlreicher Kunstschätze. Das, was an Altären und Gemälden im 16. Jahrhundert die Bilderstürmerei des Reformationszeitalters überstanden hatte, fiel schließlich französischen Besatzungstruppen im vorigen Jahrhundert zum Opfer. Die hatten aus der Kirche kurzerhand eine Kaserne und einen Stall mit Strohlager gemacht.
