Deutsch: 20.07.2008 01768 Glashütte, Dittersdorfer Weg 25: Sternwarte WEMPE, Chronometerwerke Glashütte (GMP: 50.847763,13.787326). Gleich hinter dem Bahnhof
führt der Dittersdorfer Weg steil auf die Höhen. Hier errichtete 1904 bis 1910 die Urania die Sternwarte Glashütte. Die Einweihung fand am 26. Juni 1910 statt. Die Geschichte der Sternwarte Glashütte als Stätte der Uhren begann Ende der 30er Jahre mit Otto Lange, Enkel des Gründers der sächischen Uhrenindustrie Ferdinand Adolph Lange und Herbert Wempe, Inhaber der Chronometerwerke sowie der Uhrengeschäftskette Wempe. Sie begründeten gemeinsam die "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Sternwarte Glashütte" mit dem Ziel, eine Forschungs- und Weiterbildungsstätte für junge Uhrmacher sowie ein Reglage-Institut aufzubauen. Der zweite Weltkrieg macht diese Pläne zunichte. Die Sternwarte wird kommunales Eigentum und gerät in Vergessenheit, bis Kim-Eva Wempe und ihr Vater Hellmut Wempe 2001 mit dem Gedanken spielen, eine eigene Produktionsstätte für Chronometer in Glashütte zu betreiben. Seit 2005 ist die als Uhren- und Schmuckhändler bekannte Firma Wempe hier ansässig, nachdem sie die verfallene Sternwarte kaufte und für 1,5 Millionen EUR sanieren ließ.
