||
Description |
English: CORONER'S REPORT
Description of find A coin hoard of 56 Roman nummi dating to c.313 AD found during archaeological investigation by Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service in advance of quarry works, March 2007. This small early nummus hoard runs from the introduction of this coin type in the AD 290s up to AD 310-3 and displays the usual characteristics for a British find. The majority are from the local mints (London and Trier) with a decreasing presence from those further east. No. 16 (RIC, Trier, 232b var) represents a minor type variant with Fortuna holding patera and cornucopia rather than rudder and cornucopia. No. 20 is a bust variety. Summary AD 294-305: Maximian I, Diocletian, Constantius I, 16 Metal Content All the coins are an argentiferous copper-alloy. However as they are only about 5% silver they should be considered essentially bronze. Disposition Archaeological disclaimer, deposited by landowner in SCCAS Archive All the coins are an argentiferous copper-alloy. However as they are only about 5% silver they should be considered essentially bronze. |
