Description
Deutsch: 26.10.2005 Dresden, Großer Garten: VW Werk "Gläserne Manufaktur" (GMP: 51.044339,13.755459). Am 27. Juli 1999 legte Bundeskanzler Gerhard Schröder auf dem

früheren Ausstellungsgelände am Straßburger Platz den Grundstein für den Bau einer "Gläsernen Manufaktur". Zu den Gästen zählten auch der damalige Ministerpräsident

Kurt Biedenkopf und VW-Vorstand Ferdinand Piech. Während der Planungsphase gab es zahlreiche Proteste von Tier- und Landschaftsschützern gegen den vorgesehenen Standort in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Großen Garten. Die nach Plänen der Münchner Architekten Gunter Henn für den Volkswagenkonzern errichtete Autofabrik mit ihrem 40 Meter hohen Turm produziert seit 2002 vor allem die Luxuslimousine Phaeton, wobei hier lediglich die Endmontage erfolgt. Durch die große Glasfront kann die Produktion von der Straße aus verfolgt werden. Zum Gebäude gehören auch gastronomische Einrichtungen, ein Veranstaltungsforum und eine Kunstgalerie. Vom Luxuswagen Phaeton verließen 2015 nur 3000 Fahrzeuge die Gläserne Manufaktur. 2014 waren es noch 4000 gewesen. Im März 2016 läuft die Produktion nun aus. ...
