When stay-at-home orders were first issued, Lisa Parker, a medical records technician at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Corpus Christi, turned to her hobby of quilting as a healthy and productive way to spend her off-duty time. However, when new Navy policy mandated the use of cloth face coverings for all personnel on base, she turned her sewing skills to a more immediate need and began making face masks. Parker says the project has been a family affair, with supplies donated from her son and daughter to help make the masks. Parker has donated her homemade masks to those in need and says making them has provided her with a sense of contribution to the base community as everyone does their part to stop the spread of COVID-19. |
